Games are interactive experiences that involve rules, goals, challenges, feedback, and rewards. Games can be played on various platforms, such as consoles, computers, mobile devices, or online. Games can be designed for various purposes, such as entertainment, education, socialization, or therapy. In this blog post, I will explore the future of games, their trends, technology, and types. As a student of game design and a pro in games, I am passionate about sharing my insights and predictions about this exciting field.

Trends of Games

Games are constantly evolving and adapting to the changing needs and preferences of gamers and society. Some of the current and emerging trends of games are:

  • Diversity and inclusion. Games are becoming more diverse and inclusive in terms of their characters, stories, themes, genres, and audiences. Games are also becoming more accessible and adaptable to different abilities, languages, cultures, and preferences. For example, games like The Last of Us Part II , Tell Me Why , and Life is Strange 2 feature diverse protagonists and explore issues such as LGBTQ+ identity, mental health, and social justice

  • Social and multiplayer. Games are becoming more social and multiplayer in terms of their modes, features, platforms, and communities. Games are also becoming more cross-play and cross-platform, allowing gamers to play together regardless of their devices or locations. For example, games like Fortnite , Among Us , and Fall Guys have become popular phenomena due to their social and multiplayer aspects

  • Immersive and realistic. Games are becoming more immersive and realistic in terms of their graphics, sound, physics, animation, and interaction. Games are also becoming more adaptive and dynamic, responding to the actions and choices of gamers in real time. For example, games like Red Dead Redemption 2 , God of War , and Horizon Zero Dawn have impressed gamers with their immersive and realistic worlds

  • Educational and beneficial. Games are becoming more educational and beneficial in terms of their content, design, outcomes, and impact. Games are also becoming more gamified and personalized, using game elements to motivate and engage learners in various domains and contexts. For example, games like Minecraft , Assassin’s Creed: Discovery Tour , and Brain Age have demonstrated the educational and beneficial potential of games

Games are constantly advancing and innovating with the development of new technologies that enhance the gaming experience. Some of the current and emerging technologies of games are:

  • Virtual reality (VR). VR is a technology that creates a simulated environment that immerses gamers in a three-dimensional world using headsets or glasses. VR can provide a sense of presence, agency, and embodiment for gamers in various scenarios and genres.
